Timothy R. Collins, P.E., FSFPE, SET

Alumnus Collins Named Fellow of Society of Fire Protection Engineers

“Fellow is an internationally recognized award as the highest grade of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). An SFPE Fellow represents a distinguished group who have given valuable service to SFPE, attained significant stature and accomplishment in the profession, and provided outstanding contributions to the advancement of fire protection engineering. Only approximately 5% of all members ever attain the honor as a Fellow. To become a Fellow, they are nominated by their peers, sponsored by at least five Fellow or Professional members with review-recommendation by the SFPE Honors Committee and election by the Board of Directors. Tim sees this as a lifetime achievement and says, “I am thankful and proud to be honored this way for something I have and will always love to do.”

University of Maryland alumnus Timothy R. Collins, P.E., FSFPE, a 1983 B.S. graduate of the Fire Protection Engineering program, was recently honored and inducted as a Fellow of the international Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

Established in 1950, SFPE is the professional society representing those practicing the field of fire protection engineering. The Society has over 4500 members globally and over 60 regional chapters, including a New York City Metro chapter where Tim served as chapter president from 2006-2007. Timothy Collins’ nomination as Fellow by the Honors Committee was approved by the SFPE Board of Directors and a celebration honoring him, and other newly elected Fellows, will be held at the SFPE International annual meeting in October.
